Primary Tasks of the National Council

The primary tasks of the National Council shall be as follows:
- to protect rights of individuals to the freedom of ideas and speech in the field of the audio-visual mass media;
- to ensure the compliance of the TV and radio organisations with the requirements of the current legislation of Ukraine in the field of television and broadcasting, advertising, copyright and related rights;
- to develop and implement the national policy of licensing the television and radio broadcasting;
- to consider according to the established procedure the applications of television/radio organisations for licenses; to issue the broadcasting, to control the adherence to license conditions by the television/radio organisations;
- to distribute the national radio frequency resource harmoniously and control its efficient use on the basis of the interests of society;
- to apply administrative measures within its authority to the television/radio organisations, which break the current legislation of Ukraine;
- to support the activities and development of the national television/radio producers in the course of their formation and development;
- to perform the state registration of the audio-visual mass-media;
- to protect the television and radio organisations from the pressure exerted by authorities, as well as by political, religious, financial and business circles of the society;
- to analyse the development of the telecommunication situation in Ukraine and world-wide;
- to organise the scientific and technical research into the problems of activities of the audio-visual mass-media;
- to maintain contacts with similar agencies of other countries;
- Ensuring of the development at the level of international standards, protection of the national security of Ukraine in the information sphere.
