Accompanied by a qualified guide, you will start the tour from Starokyivska Hill (Volodymyrska Hill) where the first Slavonic settlements were founded; you will see a copy of Desyatynna Churchbasement (10th century), the oldest Christian church in Kyiv Rusfounded by Prince Volodymyr.
From the 10thc. you will get to the 11th, the age of Yaroslav the Wise, Volodymyr’s son. A magnificent architectural monument of the 11thc. that had survived theTartar-Mongolian invasion and all the wars and maintained its splendor is St. Sophia Cathedral. You will be especially impressed by the interior of the Cathedral, its frescoes and mosaics of the 11thc.
You will stroll around Sofiyska and Mykhaylivska Squares surrounded with gold-domed cathedrals. You will visit the serving St.Michael Gold-domed cathedral.
The next stop is St. Andrew’sChurch. It is an amazing model of the Baroque architecture of the 18thc. constructed according to the designs of the famous architect B. Rastrelli on top of the Volodymyrska Hill. Andriyivskyy Uzviz starting from St. Andrew’s Church will especially impress you with its unique atmosphere. With its numerous galleries and souvenir shops, this romantic street is the cultural centre of Kyiv. This small street descends to the picturesque old Podil.
Not far from St. Sophia Cathedral there is the famous Zoloti Vorota (the Golden Gate) (11thc.) that long ago used to be part of the fortification and was almost completely destroyed in 1240 but later reconstructed.
You will also visit St. Volodymyr Cathedral, the most vivid example of sacral artof late 19thc, painted by world-famous artists.
You will see Mariyinskyy Palace– the residency of the President of Ukraine. The tour will end in Kyiv-Pecherska Lavra (1051) where there are several serving churches and unique caves with reliquiae.
Besides these you will see:
Khreshchatyk Street, Maydan Nezalezhnosti (the Independence Square), the T. Shevchenko University, the Opera House, the monument to the foundersof Kyiv - Kyy, Shchek, Khoryv and their sister Lybid, the monument to Motherland.
