Singapore- CommunicAsia- June 18 2007 - Irdeto, the proven expert in content security for digital TV, IPTV and mobile networks, has been selected by Chengdu Cable to accelerate the digital migration of its cable operations in Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan province.

Chengdu Cable, with more than 1.2 million subscribers in its cable TV network, will deploy Irdeto's Digital TV solution to simulcrypt with its existing Novel Tongfang conditional access (CA) system, first rolled out in 2006. Irdeto's Digital TV Solution is a platform-independent conditional access system which allows operators to scale their subscriber base to millions while ensuring content and revenue protection.

The first 50,000 Irdeto smart cards will be delivered to Chengdu Cable in September 2007, and a total of 400,000 smart cards are expected to be shipped before June 2008.

China has 140 million cable subscribers as of 2006, and the number is expected to grow to 184 million by 2011, according to research estimates by Media Partners Asia. The number of digital cable TV subscribers is expected to grow from 10 million to 61 million over the same period.
