Paging services are no more provided in Ukraine . According to the State Statistics Committee, in June no revenues of operators from providing paging services were recorded.
At the same time, in May, the revenue from these services amounted to 80 thousand UAH and in the first half of the year — to 142.6 thousand UAH. In 2009, the revenues from paging services amounted to 222.7 thousand UAH.
In recent years, the once very popular paging service was rapidly losing its subscribers. This process began in early 2000 when mobile telephony became a mass product, affordable for millions of Ukrainians.
According to Derzhkomstat, in 2008 only 14 Ukrainians used personal pagers. Yet the service was in demand among corporate customers, such as taxi drivers. But they were also moving away from it. In 4Q 2008, the number of paging services subscribers — businesses and individuals — decreased by 11.5% to 0.75 thousand.
In the past few years, major operators providing paging services have abandoned this direction, considering it unprofitable.
