Broadband Internet market shows strong growth in Ukraine. Customers are gradually forgetting dial-up-access—slow connection via telephone lines.
Of course, telephone lines still exist, but they are gradually upgraded. However, this does not prevent UkrTelekom from connecting more and more new users to high-speed Internet with the help of the ADSL technology—to such an extent that this national operator has long ago outstripped in the number of subscribers (842 thousand people by the end of 2009) all other Internet providers.Volia ranks second, with its 380 thousand broadband access subscribers.Next comes Golden Telecom, providing broadband access under the brand name Beeline to 122.5 thousand users, and Vega—to 121.2 thousand users by the end of 2009 (according to the data of iKS-Consulting research company).
Within 2009, the number of broadband access users in Ukraine increased by 54% and exceeded two million. Thus, the broadband access penetration reached 11.5% of the total number of Ukrainian households.
In 2008, the volume of the broadband market in money terms increased by 62% to 1.68 bn, and in 2009 — by 55% to 2.6 bn UAH. By 2012 it could increase 3.2 times compared with 2008 and reach 5.4 bn UAH.
