Mobile operators may obtain frequencies in the range 700-850 MHz for the development of LTE — the fourth generation (4G) communication. The member of the National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council Ihor Kurus says that the National Council is ready to discuss with the NCRC the option of attracting investment for the project of digital television implementation.
The main financial expenditure on the project is required to provide viewers with decoders to receive a digital signal, which is to be subsidized by mobile operators.According to the National Council, the number of terrestrial broadcasting subscribers is 11 million households.
After the Roundtable held by Wireless Ukraine Association (by the official request of theState Communication Administration ) on the implementation of 4G mobile technology LTE in Ukraine, Mr. Kurus said that if a dialogue could be established, a year would be enough to re-equip the viewers and start giving mobile operators the radio frequencies of interest to them.
