The National Communication Regulation Commission together with the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine have approved the Procedure for the release of 2 GHz radio frequency bands, according to the NCRC press service.
The Procedure prescribes that by November 20, 2009, the Ministry of Defense will release frequency bands of 1925-1935, 2115-2125, 2010-2015 MHzfrom special communication radioelectronic facilities for the introduction of radio technology "Digital Cellular Radio Communication IMT—2000 (UMTS)".
In connection with the release of these bands, the Regulator says that bidding for 3G communication will be held in November 27, 2009.
As previously announced, the tender for 3G may not take place because of the court proceedings initiated by the mobile operator Astelit (TM life:).Let us remember that the operator filed an action against the Ministry of Defense and the National Communication Regulation Commission (NCRC) with a demand to define the terms and procedure for the conversion. The Court ruling has postponed the tender to December 14, 2009.At the same time, NCRC has announced its intention to appeal this decision.
