The complete switch of Ukraine to the digital broadcasting standard by 2015 may not happen (according to Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications of Ukrainem, the Head of State Communications Administration Oleg Prozhivalsky).
The Head of State Communications Administration notes that even after 2015 analogous receivers may work in border areas upon coordination with the neighboring states, which will not lead to Ukraine losing its radio frequency resource.
According to Oleg Prozhivalsky, the Ukrainian delegation has already agreed with most of the neighbors about possible compromise in case of delay in switching. In addition, the 40th meeting of the Heads of Communication Administrations of the Regional Commonwealth in Communications (RCC) in Slovenia adopted a number of recommendations for countries that miss the deadline.
“We haven’t agreed with one neighboring country yet – Poland, but I think they have the same problems, and we can address this issue bilaterally. With all other countries, we can follow the recommendations adopted in Slovenia. And it is permitted, if we fail to finish by 2015, taking into consideration the conditions of the financial crisis... Everybody understands it, all are in the same situation...” says Oleg Prozhivalsky.
Let us remember that, according to Geneva-2006 International Convention, all European countries (including Ukraine) are bound to switch to digital TV format by 2015.
