The National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council of Ukraine has announced the contest for HDTV broadcasting licenses in Kyiv
19.11.2008
The National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council of Ukraine has announced the contest for licenses for multi-channel broadcasting in Kyiv with the use of 41 TCE /power 1.3 kW/ in the digital standard HDTV /MPEG-4/.

According to the requirements of the National Council, the programs should be conducted in Ukrainian, and the content should either relate sports or stand out in "identity and enhance the thematic-visual palette of the national television."

The National Council started to receive applications for participation in the contest on October 27, 2008. The deadline is December 26, 2008.

MPEG-4 is an international standard to organize mass HDTV broadcasting /high-definition television/ because this codec is 1.5–3 times more efficient than MPEG-2. The quality of HDTV may be compared to the image on the screen in a movie theatre. The decoder to receive the digital signal in MPEG-4 will cost min. USD 120.
