The Cabinet of Ministers has increased broadcasting license fees
21.07.2008
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a new procedure of calculating license fees, which made license price multiply up many times

According to experts, this will cause consolidation and takeover processes in the market, complicating the work of smaller television and radio broadcasting companies.

The rates of 1995 were used before. The amount to be paid for the license was determined by the broadcasting volume, the power of transmitting device and propagation zone.

“The amount of new license fees was a shock to us as well, - said Viktor Ponedilko, a member of the National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council of Ukraine. – But we cannot influence the Cabinet of Ministers resolution”.

A lot of smaller broadcasters will now find it difficult to compete with the National ones, for their coverage is small. “Such license fee means profit loss not for one year,” – noticed Sergey Denisenko, Regional Development Director of Gala Radio.

Igor Kurus, the Deputy Chairman of the National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council of Ukraine promised to grant broadcasters the right to pay license fees by installments.
