On July 15, 2008, Beltelecom, the State communication operator, is launching a trial mode of IPTV service in Minsk. This was announced by the press service of Beltelecom. Commercial launch is planned for August 14, 2008
The introduction of the IPTV service is related to the completion of the construction of basic network of 10 Gbit/sec in Minsk, able to cope with the loads of IPTV data transmission. To use the service, the customer is provided with a splitter (free of charge for the term of the agreement), an ADSL-modem and a Set Top Box. IPTV is going to offer twenty television channels, as well as the service of pausing, EPG and video on demand, as Beltelecom reports.
The IPTV service porting costs 30,000 Bel roubles (USD 1= BYR 2124), license fee is BYR 40,000 a month.
Beltelecom was founded in July 1995 and is a national electro communication operator and the initial provider of Internet services, and offers about 70 kinds of services. 26,500 employees work for the enterprise.
